TPER: a key player in the ecological transition through transport
7 September 2026Ahead of the next edition of Traffic, taking place from 7 to 9 October 2026 at BolognaFiere, we are republishing the interview with Andrea Marella, Founder and Smart Mobility Engineer at Trafficlab, conducted on the occasion of last year’s edition.
“Our flagship product is the Wetraffic cloud platform, which can include up to twenty modules with different yet coordinated purposes. We believe in system integration as a way to create a single platform, and we place great importance on data analysis. The innovation we are particularly keen to highlight is our traffic forecasting model: with Wetraffic, which was developed based on our experience, it is possible to estimate how many vehicles will travel along a given road even without sensors. This is made possible by our autonomous prediction system, which is continuously enriched and also leverages artificial intelligence.”
This is how Andrea Marella, Founder and Smart Mobility Engineer at Trafficlab, explains it. The company focuses on traffic, road safety and smart mobility, with the aim of improving the efficiency and sustainability of urban, extra-urban and corporate spaces.
And where is the market heading? Current developments are divided into two areas:
- automotive (autonomous driving and interaction with intelligent systems);
- applications, where data needs to be analysed and integrated by experienced professionals.
“In addition to using AI, we need to work with qualified technicians who are able to operate within the smart city environment,” Marella explained. “There is, however, a shortage of these professionals, who could prove to be a driving force for the sector.”
Bringing benefits to people
According to Marella, the focus should be on integrating data with new technologies and demonstrating that real solutions exist—solutions that deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
In this context, what role does an event such as Traffic 2025 play?
“It is Italy’s Intertraffic,” Marella replies. “We made many valuable contacts and will also be attending the next edition, hoping that the exhibition can continue to expand.”
